Winter Falls Asleep
By Bruce McMillan

It happens in April, on time,
that last sliver of snow, pure white,
winter's leftover. Hark, spring's chime,
bird calls, the sun longs to stay bright,

high in the sky, pine shade lets go
of sliver's hiding place, summer
wants to play, go away. You know
why you linger, melting slumber.
